Please can some with more knowledge than me advise what would be considered a good range of stem length for drop bars?

Regards,

I'm large. 6'2" & 17 stone. I want to put a 125mm stem on a bike that has a 570 top tube (centre to centre), but surely there comes a time when a stem is too long and can affect handling. Likewise a stem can surely be too short.

I suppose it depends on the rest of the geometry of the bike too.... but I've run 130 mm stems with drop bars before with no probs and I'm similar height to you.

I 'longish' in the back soo ride a 140mm which some may say as long but the seatangle is quite slack so it makes up for it.

It'd prob. be shorter is the SA was steeper.

I've rode the bike over multiple hours + had it for 2/3yrs and its quite comfortable - other than a custom: just a case of making a fit as good as possible.

Sit on the bike as you would ride it, hands on drops. Look down at the front wheel. The front hub should be in line with the bar tops - ie, you can't see the hub.

Remember this is just a rule of thumb. People vary.
