Steel Frame + Alu steatpost= Headache

You could always try using a hacksaw blade and cutting vertically to get it out. I'd be careful though as some steel frames (531 especially) are quite thin and can be cut through accidentally with ease. Other than caustic is the only way I think.

Hi Mr.Beard

It seems like you're having a right ol' time with this seatpost:cursing:
If you really have exhausted all avenues, would you like me to remove it for you?
I'm out at Lingwood, not too much of a run out from Narrrrch. Sounds like it needs drilling out, a 1" drill bit in an SDS drill should remove the bulk, and the remains should then collapse in and come out.

I just can't bear to see someone struggling with a solve-able problem:wacko:

It's a rum ol' deal.

It's a month later now, and still no sign of progress. It does feel that I should take matters into my own hands, or the hands of someone who can/ will get it done, especially if it can save me the £60 the LBS suggests it will cost.

I'm thinking that I should probably at least get the bike back from the LBS. They've stripped it down to almost just the frame, so I guess they'll have to do a proper rebuild so all the moving parts are working properly, so I may be getting a mini service out of this for free (they won't charge unless they fix the original problem) woot. Every cloud, and all that.

I'll give them to the end of the week, and then I may take you up on your kind offer.
