Starting the boys of young.

No1 son turns 4 on Friday and No2 some turns 2 on Wednesday. (Yes bad planning I am fully aware of that).

Anyway No1 son has been telling me how he loves the bikes at his preschool and how fast he is on them so I made the decision to purchase his first bike.

A nice simple balance bike to start with and of course I couldn't buy him one and not No2 son so he has a trike that converts to a balance bike later down the line.

I can't wait to see their little faces when I give them their pressies and hopefully in a few months take my bike out and have a short ride around the local gravel tracked park.

Great idea, but not sure you are starting the 4 year old young. My daughter was riding without stabalisers at 3.5. My son on the other hand, not interested in any kind of bike until he was 4.

Edit: from the kids point of view, this is brilliant planning. They both get presents each Christmas (presumably) and another set of presents half way between Christmases. As an October birthday, it was a long wait if you saw the perfect thing in January.

Great idea, but not sure you are starting the 4 year old young. My daughter was riding without stabalisers at 3.5. My son on the other hand, not interested in any kind of bike until he was 4.

My two youngest are 5 & 4. (After little fellas birthday in July they are both 5 for two weeks, now thats bad LACK of planning!)

I'm having hard time getting them both off the stabilisers, they bomb about great on their bikes but just can't get them to make any progress on 2 wheels. Their big brother was off the stabilisers before his 4th birthday.

They have never got on with the balance bikes, but I wish I had persevered more with them. At least it's keeping me fit bombing along holding little saddles!

The oldest has always liked riding his trike but is so clumsy so always steered away from bikes but since going to preschool he has loads of confidence.

The youngest loves his ride ons so I think he will pick up the balance bike very quickly and progress to pedals quicker than the eldest.

We will see

I wanted to get No1 son a bike at Christmas but he is quite short so found it difficult to sit on a bike so we decided to wait. He can now touch the floor with his feet but pedalling is another story altogether.

We got the big lad (8) a little bmx style Pinnacle bike when he was 3, got him off the stabilisers really quickly, he just took to it. The bike was too small for him pretty quickly, I got him a cheapo Apollo mountain bike that I thought he might struggle with, but he jumped straight on and never stopped since.
It made a massive improvement to his riding when he got the bigger bike despite a few wobbles at first.

The plan is to see how he gets on with his balance and using the brake before we let him on a pedal bike. The little one will probably skip the larger balance bike and head straight to pedals as he is a true daredevil

25th. Apparently my father was most upset that he had to miss the Morecambe & Wise Christmas special .

July's a good month for birthdays though. My little girl has her first in a couple of weeks .
