Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
she is still confused so I'm giving my suggestion which is a Trek Hybrid 7.2 FX .... brilliant bike IMHO, good price and many of my clients who have taken my advice by buying one have thanked me and are very happy
That's a surprise if they're near Cambridge because the Trek dealer there was Primo and I've never seen a bike shop give women ruder, more dismissive service (but I've not seen that many examples, to be fair).

Maybe his clients aren't female. He did link the 'men's' bike when the wsd version is available too and may be more appropriate for a 5'4 lady  much better looking colour wise too

Dunno. Conspiracy theories aren't my thing

Did we ever establish where the OP is located? Might help. As a total newbie, she'd be advised to try to buy the right size bike in store locally rather than taking a punt on the biggest online reduction

Conspiracy theory? I was just noting that Trek's Cambridge dealer seemed shoot for women. I don't know if that's a general Trek failing or if their dealer-training/checking missed one.

I don't think so and I agree trying is good. @HelenQueen roughly where are you, please?

I linked to the cheapest Trek that I could find on Google

and as for Primo, I've bought a few items (lights, inner tubes, etc etc) from them and have always had excellent service. I also know of 2 people that have bought bikes from them (a Scott Foil and a Cervello), and both the guys speak very highly of Primo

my bikes are serviced by Bicycle Ambulance which is just around the corner from primo, but I would not hesitate to let Primo service them if Bicycle Ambulance is fully booked

(emphasis mine) I don't doubt it. I'll still not recommend them to a woman any time soon.

Heya, I'm located in central Birmingham if that helps?
I'd Just go to Evans and try some out in that case. Just need photo id and a bank card. They price match pretty much any other retailer if you find the same bike in stock elsewhere

Typical roadbikes aren't great for riding on grass as the OP of this thread is interested in doing
