Guys,

Me and my neighbour have just started our 1,000 miles campaign to raise money for Help For Heroes.
We are training hard, doing at least 4 hours each of static cycling throughout the week, with an official bike ride at the weekend.
The problem is this. Even though we are putting all this training in, the results seem to be minimal. Is there any way we can make this easier for ourselves?
Does anybody have any tips for covering loads of miles?

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Hi Daniel.
Unfortunately, the only real training that'll give you results is to get out on the roads at the weekends.
There are people who use the gym at work and do spinning classes and are brilliant at spinning, but put them on a bike on the road and they can't handle it.
I found that static bikes do not prepare you or your posterior for long rides - unless it's a super turbo trainer with automatic resistance variance etc.
The good thing is 4 hours in the saddle at the weekend can see you clocking up 50-60 miles

Are you doing a number of ries to make up the 1000 or is it one ride over a number of days (out & back or point to point etc)

Tony,

Thanks for the info. Me and my friend are at different physical abilities. His limit at the moment is around 30 miles a day. I was just looking at ways to make it easier for him on longer rides.
The plan is to cycle the 1,000 miles throughout the year, doing smaller bike rides at weekends and during school holidays, with a final ride from point to point to finish it off.

Thanks for the sound advice

If you look at it another way, 1000 miles is not that hard to acheive.

If you rode twice a week, and 20 miles each ride, this would take 25 weeks to accomplish...so mainly the whole of summer...easy enough to do.

Thanks for the sound advice guys, and thank you Judderz for putting it in a simple way. My friend can be a little hard to motivate at times, often he misses weekends because he's " Too tired!"

Looking at it as a 25 week thing, its seems more acheiveable than looking at the whole distance (Which is the same as cycling from here to Barcelona!)

Once again, thanks a lot
