Purveyor of fine nonsense
It doesn't matter what you prepare, you can be guaranteed that someone will pick at it and complain in a whiny voice, "but I don't like <insert any foodstuff here>. Have you got anything else?" There's always one.

I remember going on holiday once with about ten of us - the first evening we didn't eat until 11pm because whichever restaurant we went to, there was always someone who didn't like <insert foodstuff here>! In the end a small group of us who will eat anything just plonked ourselves down at a table in the 23rd restaurant and said, "we're eating here, you can do whatever you like!"

There there. Did the nasty man upset you?

You're nothing like Greedo. You have 6 friends prepared to come to dinner, for a start.... ;)

I think with a rich meat main, I'd go for something light and crispy to start, hence I thought of something on salad leaves.

What's pudding by the way?

I was a bit depressed for a while but I'm over it now, Arch

I think maybe fresh fruit and cheese will do.

Small pieces of smoked salmon, brown crab meat, blinis, sour cream. All picked up from the chiller cabinet of your nearest Waitrose. All put in the middle of the table. People with awkward requirements can just not take the blinis or the crab.

Serve that with a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, which will also go quite well with those people who won't drink the Burgundy you've no doubt bought to go with the pork "because they don't like red wine".

no, no! kiwi SB far too overpowering for just about anything (fine with fish'n' chips tho'!!)...good call on the burgundy!

Fine choice. If different fruits, follow with cheese; if fruit is something simple (sensible) like grapes, fine to have with cheese. And do not have more than 3/4 different cheeses. (And if you insist on having a blue or similar, please have more than one cheese knife!!!!)

Gratuitous plug: an inexpensive, soft and delicious pinot noir form chile will satisfy most people for the main course.

Right... no preparation, decent enough food, looks good too..
1) German ham from Lidl... comes in a pack, don't tell them it isn't serrano or prosciutto... it tastes lovely.
2) Lidl chorizo... again, tastes good, and a good price
3) olives/sun-dried toms from morissons deli counter

arrange the lot artistically on the biggest plate you have, 'drizzle' some olive oil over the top, serve with loads of crusty bread and some red wine

bob's yer uncle.

This could almost be our weekend too! We are having Jamie Oliver's slow-roast pork shoulder for 8 on Sunday and our daughter is coeliac so she has a gluten-free diet. She is making tomato & red pepper soup which she loves to cook (she's 16) and it tastes amazing. Desert will probably be home-made Pavlova, again made by our daughter.

I am happy to send you any gluten-free information if you PM me! Good luck!

I think ours is the Jamie one with loin on beans with chorizo. Is that the same one, BP?
I think I'm going for the mozzarella starer with ripped up apricots and mango on a bed of mixed leaves and some GF pita bread if I can be arsed to go to Sainsburys.

Nobody's nibbling on my meat Noodles especially not deep fried.

I'd say 7/10 for the strange mix of people and 8/10 for the nosh.

The beer, the gin, the wine, the port were 10/10!

Headache in the morning though, so all good.
