As my bike got got hit by a car and im awaiting a new one I decided to take up jogging and ive just been out and only around the block and wow, I thought it would be easy as I can cycle miles on end. I only could manage around the block and im now aching like crap, nothing like what im like getting off a bike after 20 odd miles, im a bit embarrassed!.

Is this normal? and does it get easier?, how long will it take me to start getting into 30 minute runs?.

Thanks.

Oh yes

I've been off the bike all week due to snow and ice. Ran every day, 4-5 miles. My quads are bruised to hell and it hurts to walk, and especially going down stairs. It will pass after 48hrs (sooner with ibuprofen/NSAIDs). Just different muscle groups getting used to being used differently. Also, it will not happen if you run regularly (even once a week). However, I way prefer biking, and this always happens when I re-start running.

It's the turbo trainer for me tonight, especially with a gale going on outside. More gentle on the quads (low-impact)

Must dust off the treadmill and do a bit of jogging over the winter.
Got to be a good way of getting fitter for the big rides I'll be doing in 2012.

During the winter months I only cycle once a week. I run about 2-3 times a week. It is painful during the first week, but you quickly go faster and further. I have found running has made me much stronger at climbing hills on the bike.
