Has google maps suddenly started sending cyclists down footpaths?

Who is that directed at? I‘ve been editing OSM for years.

Me, I'm guessing.

This is fantastic news. You really have to admire their efforts on what would, once done, be a big tourist boost for Alnwick and Wooler. Alnmouth too.

The weird thing about this old rail line is that Google maps tried to take me over Edlingham viaduct. It was inaccesible due to the Google route being someone's garden.

Seems the Tweed Trail has got major funding so it looks like Berwick to Cornhill route is sorted . By 2028.
And a 2 miles of Borderline Trail is imminent in opening. News has it as an autumn opening. The Berwick connection now increases the importance of their low efficient budget efforts.

Here is their vision.

Having achieved so much already on a miniscule budget makes a very strong case for long term trickle lottery funding, it likely achieving a 1000% return competitive to similar projects.

Anyone else noticed this?
[google is far from my ideal route-planner, but the cycling mode used to be a quick way of giving you a *rough* route ... ]

My guess is no, I think it is more likely that the right of way is incorrect in google's database. I don't know how they generate their mapping data, probably from a variety of sources, but sometimes it is just wrong. I planned out an audax route on google once, and it routed me along a drainage ditch. It's always a good idea to double check e.g. with streetview.
