You're not missing much. Alec Guinness only did it for the money, and you can tell.

I thought that it was the Social Workers who failed to place Luke in a suitable home, resulting in the family conflict between him and his Father

When did it go wrong? When people started treating it as more than it is: a series of enjoyable family popcorn movies. You're not supposed to buy into the mystics of it, you're supposed to cheer the good guys, boo the bad guys, lust after Leia/ Han Solo as appropriate and ignore the plot holes.

Not everyone likes the same things. Some people think Inglorious Basterds is a good film, for pity's sake.

I the scene where Darth Vader is in the meeting choking the Head of HR and Peter Cushing tells him angrily to stop, well, listen carefully and you can hear David Prowse fart.

I enjoyed the very first movie, especially at the cinema when it first came out. It had pace, plenty of action and great special effects. After that for whatever reason I didn't find the successive movies as good.

When I see all the Star Wars merchandise in shops - t-shirts, mugs, figures, Lego etc etc - the geeky part of me wishes I 'got' Star Wars more than I do as it might be fun to be interested in that side of things, but it just doesn't fire me with enthusiasm.

Like you I too watched the first one at the cinema...just amazing.. I loved the first 3, watched many times.

I don't watch the new ones again and again..tho there ok there just not special like the brilliant first ones.
