Star Wars - when did it start going wrong?

I reckon about half way through the first film when Obi Wan Kenobi got killed. If Darth Vader had only pruned off a limb or two, then we would have been spared that muppet Yoda. Also, I suppose it was the plan from the start, but I groaned when it was revealed that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father. It just turned it into a soap drama for me. It would have been much better if Darth Vader had been Anakin Skywalker's best friend who betrayed him.

When it was first broadcast. Having never consciously seen a single minute of any of them ever and plan on keeping that intact, I couldn't really tell you so I don't really know why I'm chipping in!

I enjoyed the very first movie, especially at the cinema when it first came out. It had pace, plenty of action and great special effects. After that for whatever reason I didn't find the successive movies as good.

When I see all the Star Wars merchandise in shops - t-shirts, mugs, figures, Lego etc etc - the geeky part of me wishes I 'got' Star Wars more than I do as it might be fun to be interested in that side of things, but it just doesn't fire me with enthusiasm.

I eventually decided to sit down and watch the first movie last year, I lost interest quite quickly. Someone offered me a beer so I wandered off and never really came back to it.
