Actualy the garmins have built in speed from their GPS so no silly cables or magnets required.

correct - but the cadence sensor uses magnets on the garmin for both speed (attached to wheel) and cadence attached to crank arm

maybe someone else can chime in on whether speed can be done with power meters, as i don't know

The Cadence on that is done on the accelerater thingi, Dont most garmins uses GPS data for speed so you should be able to take of the other sensors.
I know yours doesn't but for me would need to buy one with GPS. At the mo I only use a forerunner101.

i prefer the speed from the sonsor than the gps - as sometimes the gps can lag and lose you in some spots and therefore doesnt have accurate speed data

My birthday soon, might put the stages power meter on the list.

Hi Jowwy,

I just received one of the stages power meters. Im using it with a garmin 800 and seems to be fine.

I have only done a few short rides and one 20 miler so Im no expert, but if you have any questions drop me a line and I will do my best to answer (but I think DC rainmaker covers everything)

One forum I read had a lot of people saying the battery was draining very quickly. It seems the first batch had a fault that would not let them sleep when not in use. Mine seems to power of after about 30 seconds of being stationary, then wakes up within a few seconds of moving the crank.
