I put on a new cassette and a new chain in 15 - 20 minutes and spent the rest of the day trying to adjust the rear derailleur. I always found the misnamed 'double tap' shifters awkward but I overcame that obstacle now the problem is that the mech grabs the chain and moves two or three cogs at a time both up and down. When changing down I sweep the lever inwards and miss the cog I want meanwhile grating I then click to move up a gear and if lucky I will get the cog I was first looking for.
Does anyone posses the Sram voodoo?

Sounds like your pushing the lever all the way over, you push it in one click to go to a harder gear. 2 for one change to an easier and you can click it another twice after that to go three at a time

Can you explain that a bit more Jack as that seems to be what is happening, is it just a question of technique do you think?I did try that and just about everything else cy.

Basically the sram shifter works on a rachet, push it slowly and not beey far and you will feel it clicking, one click will put it into a harder gear, push it in til you hear two clicks and you will go into an easier gear, push it right in and as far as possible youll drop 3 easier

I also had a similar problem on mine - the issue was simply that I had missed the fact that the SRAM derailleur had a small cut away channel to run the cable through after it comes out of the mech. I missed it, and the cable just sat alongside the run, which left it functional, but problematic much like you describe. Worth a check!

That was it Mr Policeman - Sir - thank you. But being a glutton for punishment I thought I would change the cable while I'm at it = after all how hard can it be? Well the answer to that question is = extremely. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
