My second hand giant defy has developed a annoying squeak that seems to be coming from the bottom bracket area which is worse under load ie climbing . The bike is a 2012 bike which I bought second hand . It has covered around 700 miles . Any idea how to track the noise and cure it . A fellow rider commented on the squeak today so as well as annoying me it annoys others aswell . I thought it was to do with SPD cleats and pedals retighten cleats dry lubed pedals but noise persists .

i had a "squeak" and was convinced it was the BB In fact i would have put money on it being the BB, But it turned out to be the rear skewer, so DO NOT rule anything out

@roadrash thanks for the link I am now confused  off to tighten water bottle cages wd40 my cables check my front forks and that just for starters

Its what I did with a creaky Flyer, I just went round checking, cleaning, lubing and tightening everything I though might be causing it, I never found out what was causing the creak but had a silent bike afterwards.

I had the same thing recently. Turned out one of the pedals was slightly loose. Another common cause is chain ring bolts. Basically, you need to systematically check all these sorts of things before getting to the BB itself.

Can you post a picture of the 'bit' near where the pedals turn round ?

Loads of noises on bikes. You've helped saying you just have got it second hand.
