Hi,
I fancy a crack at Spurn point from Beverley Minster, Has anyone done this ?Its 80 mile ish return. Not too many hills I would imagine, probably very windy though.Maybe wrong on both counts .
Any thoughts or interested parties ?Let me know.
Looking at weekend 21st /22nd Aug, work and weather permitting.
Link to Route below from Google. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
First 12 or so miles look pretty urban , any thoughts on a different route?
Thanks
Ray

Hi
I've done Spurn from Mappleton, near Hornsea. Depending on route it can be quite pleasant. Some parts are quite exposed so can be rather breezy.
I'd avoid as many main roads as possible as a lot of the roads are rather twisty & many motorists travel at a rather quick rate  There is the holderness loop byway which is signposted on some of the route & takes you on quieter roads.
I'll be dropping a youngster off at Easington for pony club on Sat 20th & planning to ride around for a few hours from there, so may see you about if you do it next Saturday

I did 3 x 100+ mile loops, just up to almost South of Brid and all the way down to Spurn last month but I did not go down to the point itself, the last time I tried the road was covered in sand in a lot of places and after a couple of hundred yards of carrying or bikes we turned back, no point getting sand in your transmission etc. But the sand maybe gone by now, The cafe at Kilnsea is the usual turn around point.

It can get quite windy as it is quite open and flat with little shelter in places, the last time I went down to Spurn it was head wind all the way for 40+ miles from near Brid

From Beverley, once you get off the main road to Meaux there are many quite country roads which will take you down to Spurn and along the Humber bank.

And no route is showing up on your Google map apart for the whole of Europe

Sand is a constant feature on the track on Spurn. for me it would be a none starter on my bicycle. The Crown at Kilnsea is not a bad stopping off point.

mmm............ one for the diary.

Went down to the point in the car, or at least to the coastguard station, then walked around the point. Loads of smooth similarly coloured stones, some of which are now in my son's bathroom in London! The road disappeared in places (breached) then kept going either side of the dunes. At the Point the passing ships came so close you could almost talk to the crew. I think it's an ever changing situation on the Spurn Point road. If I get to go there by bike I'll be keeping an open mind as to whether it is possible to do it or not on the day.
