Been riding for 6 months now and finally got one up on my mate last week, hes 10st nothing and riding a full carbon bike where as im 17st and riding an alu, picked a start and finish point (the high street nice flat straight road) got to the start and went for it, beat him by 3-4 bike lengths and the computer recorded my top speed as 45.6mph.... well pleased with that effort :-)

Any other guys / girls here who like a good sprint and whats your top speeds?

Not really a sprint per se, but there's a long upward incline on the way back from my little 8/9 ride I like to do. I'm only just getting back into the whole "fitness" thing and while my legs could probably go 30 miles........my body/heart/head can only comfortably do 10ish right now.

Anyhow, Sunday afternoon heading back up this cycle path on the way home 2 young lads (probably about 8yrs and 11/12yrs) pass me on their bikes and smirk at me. The older one is wearing a full face helmet (probably sensibly actually as he was doing a wheely as he passed me which he carried on for a good 100 meteres). We hit this slope and I've just over taken them............they push like mad to get up this hill giggling as they keep glancing back.

Eventually they start slowing..........but I keep on pushgin and I beat 'em

I got to the top turned round and looked at them and shrugged hehe

I suggest either a very strong back wind or down hill, also high street is not the place for giving the rest of us cyclist a bad name.

No chance you have 2 wheel magnets on by any chance.

If it's anything like our local high street it was probably the most life/excitement it had seen for moths....

I sprint down all the hills on my routes and my top ever speed is 34.8mph. I would need to fit rocket boosters to reach 45+mph

our high street is on a nice hill.............sadly it heads straight into the one way system (coming the opposite direction up the hill) and you have to go round a sharpsih corner onto the main bus stop road if you don't want a head on collision with anything (and if you go round it too fast will risk ended up with your face printed onto the back of a bus, or mowing down an errant ped

What is the speed limit of most high streets? oh yes 30 mph. Furious riding I would call it, I would suggest my double magnets closer the mark.

I've managed 43mph over just short of a mile on a 53/11 setup. It was down Shooters Hill with no traffic though and I've only managed it the once although I do regularly touch 40+mph for a short period.

To be fair, the OP may be talking kph in which case I can sprint at 45kph for a while

45mph is pro speed sprinting so would you tell us what wheel circumference you have set up on your computer?. It should be something like 208.

Dunno what my speed is during sprints - usually just about enough to keep the other "quick" guys on a Sunday club training ride at bay! We always sprint for Town/Village signs - usually around 4 of us mixing it up and trying to get the jum on each other. I'm not much good on the tactics - I always seem to go too early or get caught in the wrong gear so i rely on speed/power instead.
