I also consider that My Cyling Log is as good as any and it also has the added attraction that many other CC members are there already.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be aware of the smart phone apps as the GPS function can eat batteries. If you want to say commute, then have a charger (even a USB lead) to top up at work before the ride home.

Apart from that, there are some excellent answers here

Totally off topic....

Been there!

I found that after an initial success I quickly reached a plateau and was not getting results

I found that what helped me most was a heart rate monitor. These can be quite cheap (£15)

The way I used mine was to slightly up the heart rate to make sure I was doing more work, and this made the difference for me.

(Normal cautionary advice applies on middle aged gentlemen taking up exercise though)

Actually it is Libreoffice, which is a branch off from open office and comes bundled with the latest distribution of ubuntu.

Column B is distances (since the start if the year). Column C is distances on my new bike. Yes, the whole of column E is fuel cost (had I done the distance in my car). Rows 6 and 8 are year sub-totals (for all columns). Row 4 is Total since September 2010.

Also, Fuel rate is MPG, Fuel cost rate is £/litre, and CO2 rate is kg/gallon.

Sorry it's not perfect; I only built it for myself. I've not been well, you know. I'll try to do better in future.:surrender::blush:

 I wouldn't go offering it out to people in that state
I've done far too much work with spreadsheets where they need to be understandable by anyone in a short time frame, so they gotta be right!

Ah, but it is right - all the calculations are correct, and the layout is actually quite logical. It may not be polished, but it is offered free on a take it or leave it basis - if the recipient doesn't want it, then that's fine.

OK, damn you!

I spent a little time. Here is a more polished version, which goes up to the end of 2015, and is protected.

In the unlikely event that anyone wants it, then please let me know.

Since I bought a camera with GPS, I have started to use SportTracks 3.0, free to use, although it keeps asking you to upgrade.

Produces a nice map of the ride plus keeps a log of what I have done, although I need to use my bike computers ride time to correct the time, do not want to use the time the camera was recording for.
