Don't get me wrong, I think Hamilton has done good and I'm happy to see the kid succeed. However I think that other sports men and woman have probably worked just as hard as he has, but have done so without being driven by greed. I'd like to see the award go to someone who hasn't already received vast financial reward for their efforts.

In a year of Olympic glory and British victories, there is surely no way Andy Murray can win it.

I have a feeling that it will be Adlington. As for a cyclist winning it am happy to wait for Cav winning the Green Jersey or the Worlds in 2011 and then taking SPOTY.
Great achievement by the Olympic Team don't get me wrong but can't see one of them winning SPOTY.

Not beyond the realms of possibility that BC take Team of the year though.

It could be said that Cav's wins in the Giro and TdF were more worthy than Hoy's Olympics in terms of difficulty of competition but he's not even on the short list. Nicole Cooke's achievements are equally amazing but I suspect Hamilton will win it as motor racing always seems to get a disproportionate amount of the vote.

I didn't realise F1 was a sport though, more a fast drive punctuated by frequent visits to the petrol station and Kwikfit:evil:

I'm just surprised that "Plucky" Paula Radcliffe isn't there. She's nominated every bloody year - no matter what major championship she's made a pigs ear of.

Beijing - pig's ear but still runs denying *** (the other girl who was in cracking form and who's name eludes me) a run,
Athens - Dodgy pint the night before but still runs.

What will she do in London 2012? Go on an all night bender the night before?

I guess we should be grateful that there are so many to choose from!

Indeed. Funny how she's never crocked when there's big money to be made, like in the recent New York marathon, isn't it?

Anyway,

Deep Blue,
In '97 I voted for you,
As Sports Personality of the year,
I thought at least,
You'd get the overseas,
'Cos when all's said and done,
You're not like some of these....

The cyclists may well win as a team. The individual cycling vote will be split, and Hamilton will cruise through the middle depsite being a very boring man in a 'sport' that had the life sucked out of it some time ago. I'd quite like Andy Murray to win just because he's so miserable, and he would cast a pall of gloom over the whole event. It would be great.

Hoy's been at the top for a decade, and clearly deserves to win on merit. However, it's never been about merit...

Actually, I tend to agree with FM - a win for the sour-faced Murray would be hugely entertaining.
