Double Pedant Alert:

Examiners don't, and never have, 'jumped out' in front of motorcycles on test. They stand to the side and raise an arm to signal the rider to stop. Any other method would be unnecessary and possibly dangerous. As for them jumping out in front of the wrong motorcyclist? That's just an old urban myth.
Triple Pedant Alert

My Examiner on both my <50cc & >50cc tests looked up & down the street several times as I approached & then stepped into the road & raised his arm along with the clipboard.

Quadruple pedant alert:

The examiner would not have raised his arm along with the clipboard. That implies that the clipboard moved independently in time with his arm which is impossible. He actually raised his arm while he was holding the clipboard in his hand.

But he didn't 'jump into the road in front of you, from a hidden position' did he? And I bet you stopped well before you reached him, as well?

Well actually my examiner did hide behind a tree although I spotted him some distance away and covered the brakes so that when he did step out, I stopped easily in time despite the silly leading arm front suspension on my Honda, which required a deft touch on the brake to prevent it from bouncing upwards under braking torque.

Unfortunately I failed to listen to his instruction to "continue turning left until I signal you to stop" and after my first circuit of the block I stopped opposite him and called out: "Where do you want me to go now?" I also used my mirrors and didn't shoulder check so he failed me and I had to re-sit later.
