When I took my motorcycle test that was how obvious the instructor was when he hid behind a tree then jumped out on me to test my emergency stop. It was summer though so he wasn't dressed as a Santa, obviously.

I was riding a Honda C70 and that test gave me the right to jump on any motorbike, even a 1200 cc Japasaki if I had wanted.

One of the two stones, just before the third tree on the right, has been pushed into the dirt track.
Probably by the landrover that came down the road.

PEDANT ALERT:

It was the examiner who jumped out in front of you, not an instructor. Examiners conduct driving tests, instructors don't.

Just so's you know.

There's a driving examiner about to jump out from behind the second tree on the right in the bottom picture.

My F-i-L has a story about when he took his test and the examiner told him to go round the block where he'd jump out for the emergency stop, after a couple he laps he went back into the test centre to find the examiner...who was waiting for an ambulance after jumping out in front of the wrong motorbike

Double Pedant Alert:

Examiners don't, and never have, 'jumped out' in front of motorcycles on test. They stand to the side and raise an arm to signal the rider to stop. Any other method would be unnecessary and possibly dangerous. As for them jumping out in front of the wrong motorcyclist? That's just an old urban myth.
