Rims is a Mavic CXP12 with Single gauge spokes .

I know the DS should have more tension than the NDS but it seems like my DS is over tensioned and NDS under tensioned by what they should be but if I tighten NDS up it pulls the wheel to far over to that side of the frame.

I don't understand how I can re-tension the wheel correctly without knocking it off centre ?

What makes you think the respective tensions are incorrect - have you matched the wheel up against a dishing tool or does the rim sit offset, in relation to the seatpost?

The Rim is bang in the middle of the frame at the moment but NDS spokes feel quite loose compared to another wheel and DS feels over tensioned as a spoke key cant tighten them any more , they seem to be at their limit.

Not got a dishing tool .

Eddy, if your DS is over tensioned and the dishing is correct then you cannot posibly have under tensioned nds spokes. Assuming even tensioned spokes on both sides.

That is exactly what my reasoning was that how could that be possible, does not make sense but the NDS are definitely to loose and DS cant be tightened further as I tried to tighten NDS which resulted in the wheel going off centre then trying to pull it back over by tightening drive side but the nipples just rounded as the tension was at the max possible so had to loosen off NDS to centre wheel again.

Two things:

One, you need to find out what sort of tension you have on the NDS but if they do feel too loose then to maintain the dishing you must tighten, say half a turn or less at a time, spokes on each side. Start at valve hole and go round the wheel, half a turn or less on each spoke (same amount on each spoke). Check the truing and repeat if necessary. Don't forget to stress relieve the wheel.

Two, you need to get a spoke key with four sides to prevent any damage to the nipples. If the spokes on the drive side are on the loose side and the dishing is good then your DS spokes are not anywhere close to the maximum tension spokes can take  you are not trying to get to the maximum though. If you can get say double butted spokes tension on the rear wheel around 120 / 70 kgf then you'll be OK.

Thanks for the reply but I cant do what your saying because the drive side will not tighten any further , I am just in but am thinking the problem may be to do with hub sizes as its on a cx bike so am thinking the hub is 130 but should 135 .

Ahhh, yes, that would make a difference.

The funny thing is that the wheel was made for my hybrid about 5 years ago by a local wheel builder through a third party but he must of used 130mm hub and it must of been dished wrong from the start so when I had it trued by lbs he has centred it by a combination of over tightening one side and under tightening the other, a 5mm washer and a tighten of NDS might fix it , will try that tomorrow

and thanks for your time
