Spoke nipple sizing...

I need a few replacement spoke nipples, how do I?

a) Measure a spoke and then determine what gauge it is?

b) Determine what spoke nipple fits the said spoke?

You measure the spoke with a vernier calipers. Measure as close to the nipple as possible in case you have butted spokes. It will be either a 2mm or 1.8mm spoke. Just ask for the corresponding nipple, i.e. 2mm or 1.8mm. The only thing that can go wrong is if you fit a 2mm nipple on a 1.8mm spoke. It will turn on but quickly strip as you apply tension. The other way round won't work, in other words, you cannot fit a 1.8mm nipple on a 2 mm spoke.
