I've heard a few horror stories about screws falling out leaving people unable to unclip. Worries me a little that it's very expensive and has such a fundamental flaw.

I've had that with SPDs, and I'm sure it's happened with all other cleat systems, too.

Not something I've ever experienced, )or heard of TBH), when I used them.

On the other hand I had to re-fit an SPD cleat screw in my mates shoe this morning on our ride after one came out, go figure

A total of 3 bolts have to drop out to cause this to happen, this smacks of bad maintenance/inattentive installation. All the bolts supplied by SP have thread lock on them, unfortunately when people remove cleats etc they tend not to re-apply any thread lock.

All of this had certainly given me 'food for thought'. I do realize that they are the sort of pedal that requires regular maintenance, but I actually enjoy spending time in the shed looking after things. So far in my 50 years riding a bike nothing yet has ever come off or come loose. They're certainly not cheep though, so I just wanted to make sure!
