Now I am riding a road bike am I still allowed to acknowledge lesser mortals on their hybrids/MTB's. (Joking). I have noticed more roadies giving me the nod or a "good morning" as we pass than when I ride a hybrid.

Anyway, I went out in the sunshine this morning and did a 20 miler. I want to try and get my average speed up from it's present poor 11 -12mph over 20 miles up to 15mph for the same distance. I am now making a determined effort on my weight, trying to get down from 19 stone, and the road bike is the incentive. Can't wear poncy lycra with a huge belly hanging out! This morning I did a fair number of intervals, taking my speed up to over 17 mph, but just for a quarter mile or so, then recover, then repeat. It is my fastest 20 miler for many years at just over hour and a half, slow by most standards but I am well pleased with it compared to what I was doing on my hybrid.

By the way, I acknowledge everyone, especially when out in the lanes. I acknowledge cyclists, joggers and even ramblers. We are all out doing our own thing and getting our enjoyment in our own way.

Good on yer mate. Small increments are the way to go. I started out at an average of 12 mph 18 months ago for my 18 mile loop. I am now doing it on an average of 18 mph ( must be my lucky number ) without really noticing, by just building it up slowly.
I have struggled with my weight ever since packing in the dreaded weed nearly thirty years ago, but it is all heading in the right direction now.

I am now a fat bastard.

Before Christmas I was a really fat bastard.
I hope, by next Christmas, to be down to a chubby bastard .
