Not got a speedo, but I like going at a quick pace. Then when my legs start to feel like lead, I enjoy the scenery.
Would like to know the distances of my cycle rides though.
Are they a must have (cycle computers)?

Funnily enough I commute 10 miles each way to work and some times recently I have decided I am not going to treat each trip as a race against the clock only to end up a sweaty mess upon arrival. The times when I have set off at what I consider a more leisurely pace strangely produce times and average speeds that are very similar to my flat-out trips but without the sweating and grunting, go figure?

From when I first had a half good bike (back in the medieval period) I had cyclometers, and wouldn't be without distance measurement. I record distance to help me monitor my exercise effort and also to help control and monitor bike maintenance.

In recent years I've used so-called bike computers. Still get the distance but get speed as well. Occasionally it's interesting, but it can be a distraction, and as my riding now is either functional (transport) or exercise and leisure I don't have much use for knowing speed! I'm either interested in getting where I'm going, or enjoying where I am and what I'm doing. Much more important than speed.

A speedo would have been useful 40 years ago when I did TTs, but just wasn't available. Didn't worry us much though.

It's interesting to know how far I've cycled, and when I get a clear run I use it to sprint to a bridge or signpost and then check on my max speed, but on the whole I make the progress I'm happy with, and still struggle to get up the hill without looking at the speedo!
