It's all been said Ray, those long slow miles in particular are essential. My fastest period on a bike co-coincided with a long 3 week tour a month or so before. Off the back of that and a bit more training, I managed 20mph over 30 minutes, which is still modest by club tt standards but was all I needed to do to scratch the same itch you seem to have.

15mph is still good though, mine is pretty similar of between 14 and 16 and without spending much more time on the bike and structuring my time, that's where it will stay.

Having an Endomondo best 1 mile of 2.28 is hardly anywhere close to an average 2.28 unless you live in the flatlands of the Benelux, the Endomondo average 1 mile pace over all rides would be close to your average and the Endomondo best mile could be down a long steep traffic clear hill..

If you look on Garmin connect you can see Team Garmin training and racing and rarely do you see 25-26+ average, and they do not have traffic lights, and are riding in peletons or training groups.

Anyway 15mph is not too shabby, if you want to increase it then interval training may help also raising the cadence rate. You have to ask yourself why do you want to raise it? To do your 15 miles & get home quicker? To raise your distance? Or to willy wave on a forum?

try getting someone to drop you off somewhere knowing the distance home. this will encourage you to increase the distance because you know that you have to get home. But like anything else training and time in the saddle I'm afraid.

As others have said. Forget speed and work on distance, increase your longest ride in a week by 10% each week and no more (to let your body catch up) and you'll be surprised how it will effect things. I think a lot of it is confidence, you feel great you push harder, you feel rubbish or intimidated you tend to ease off.

So ignore everyone else, there's a lot of willy waving around.

If you log everything you do on something like 'my cycle log' you can get great motivation from seeing your weekly distances and speeds come up over time.

Sorry I wasn't clear, but I'm at the 'setting my sights on 25mph as a comfortable average' stage, not that 25mph is a comfortable average over the long haul. According to my endomondo personal bests, my best 1 mile is 2.28 minutes, just over 26mph.
Now FO.
so you did 1 mile at 26mph and you think thats your average - what did you do over the rest of the ride??

and was that a downhill section of the ride? wind assisted? uphill? flat?

and telling people who are just asking for proof of your claim to FO is rather childish me thinks.
