I am considering getting a Spesh Roubaix 2013 with Sora components, my budget is limited so this is as much as i can pay at this stage.
My question is if at some stage when i have few more Pennies & Pounds will i be able to upgrade the gears, brakes etc bit by bit or will i have to upgrade the whole group set in one go, i am sure the Sora`s will be fine to start BUT i would much prefer 105s .....OR should i look at something else completely

In between here and there
What size are you getting? If it were me I would probably try and pick up a deal on a higher spec 2012, the cost of upgrading the groupset is quite high post bike purchase.

Looks like Sora is 9 speed so not sure how compatible that is with105, and this chart didn't help me but you migh be able to decipher!

you should be able to upgrade each component seperately IE: sora brake levers will still operate 105 brakes

But like Loco said look for an older bike either 2011/12 with better components for same price

If you're keen on going the upgrade route, and unless you can get a great deal on a clearance groupset, I would do bit by bit in order of priority.

Another option, a wheel upgrade may be more sensible than a groupset upgrade.

Finally, as Merckx said, "don't buy upgrades, ride up grades"...^_^

Depending on the order you upgrade things, you should have no issue. Your main consideration will be with the shifters if the number of speeds between the two groupsets are different (i.e. 9 speed Sora to 10 speed 105.)

You will be able to upgrade the brake calipers, front mech and rear mech with no issues - And chainset if you stick with the same type (i.e. double for double, or triple for triple).

However if the number of speeds are different you will only be able to upgrade the shifters at the same time as upgrading the cassette to the correct number of speeds. The rear mech is not an issue here as it will just do whatever the shifter tells it to!

Unfortunately the bike i want is on the cycle to ride scheme with a specific company and they do not have any 2012 higher spec models left in stock..:shy:
