That's Oz, where cyclists rank several tiers down from the perverts in the eyes of society. What happens there rarely reflects reality.

Some years back the government here tasked the TRRL with proving a link between vehicle performance and the accident rate, no doubt with a view to some kind of legislation. The TRRL completed their research and concluded there was no link.

More pertinently we should see speed limiters. Accy's Metro City 1.0 doing 85 down the 30 zone in the high street is just as dangerous as a Ferrari doing the same.

There are already several categories of licence with age restrictions for motorcycles depending on power output. Since cars have a far greater potential for risk to other road users, particularly as they get bigger and heavier, let alone if they have a high power/weight ratio, it shouldn't be so surprising that it's a consideration. I can just imagine the outcry if you couldn't apply for a licence for a top of the range sports car until you were 24, as is the case for some comparable motorcycles.

The Aussie special licence is virtue signalling. The system is an online course with a multiple guess assessment, there is no practical component. Anyhow, despite huge amounts of horsepower most super/hypercar owners seem to do nine along Knightsbridge not a ton through town.

My neighbour across the road from me has a Porsche 911 turbo which he has spent an absolute fortune on. He takes it for a ride at the weekend for about 30 minutes then returns and polishes it. The Porsche is then locked away in the garage for another week, and so it goes on.

How is a having an exhaust correlate to being an idiot?
It was "an exhaust on a high powered vehicle" that would allow you to know there was an idiot behind the wheel.
High powered electric vehicles take that advance warning away.
