They are a bit like my Shimano shoes. Road shoe-like from above, but they have the chunky soles too.I ride these and find them to be excellent. Go one size up if you have broad feet. I moved on from a similar style to your current shoes and feel it was a positive step.

I only mention it as even though I wear clipless on road bikes, I simply wear normal hiking shoes on flat pedals for touring. Then last week I had a very slight slippy shoe / pedal interface moment and I considered putting SPDs on.... the choice of touring shoes on some sites brought to mind those special built up shoes that the poor lad with the limp in your school used to wear.
