Having fun this morning with my new clipless setup. One foot/cleat simply doesn't want to engage with the pedal, it initially feels as though it is in but I don't get that 'clip' sound so consequently the shoe comes off the pedal during use (the other side is fine, works a treat!). I've tried adjusting the position of the cleat and pedal tension but to no avail.

Any ideas?

FWIW, I'm using Shimano A530 pedals with some Muddyfox touring shoes.

TIA

Tony.

when I first got my spd's I carefully adjusted their position till it felt right then I didn't tighten up the cleats enough... result was once clipped in, I couldn't get back out.. had to lean on a wall and take my shoes off!

+1 to the "do tell"

I once had to stop unexpectedly (due to idiot driver) didnt unclip in time so had a classic clipless moment .Only damage was to pride. Carried on with the ride and had yet another clipless moment before realizing the clip was rattling about loose.

After fitting new cleats tighten them a few times after a bit of use.

I was being a simpleton really! It was just one pedal's cleat mechanism is much stiffer than the other. The left is relatively easy to engage with while the right, I virtually have to stamp on to get it in but it's no harder to unclip from (both have the tension set right the way down). Had a quick ride after to get the hang of them and it's really nice .

When I first went clipless I bolted the cleats onto the shoe the wrong way around. Took me a very frustrating hour before I realised my mistake.

I've just changed to clipless with the same pedals as the OP, i.e. Shimano A530. i've started off with the tensions set to minimum to facilitate unclipping in an emergency. I haven't had said emergency yet, but the planned engaging and disengaging is going well so far. Even though I'm on minimum retainer tension, I don't get any impression of the cleats feeling unseated or otherwise inadeqately held. i quite like the feel of being connected to the bike, and knowing that my feet aren't going to slip in the wet either.
