Interesting thread. If I've understood correctly, carbon steerers are so delicate the expander plug needs to be directly under the stem clamp to avoid distortion or breakage? I'm just glad all my carbon forks have aly steerer tubes.

I've dished out the most disgraceful punishment to all carbon steerers and they've just said 'thankyou, Master'

LOL - do you know, after I posted I was thinking about how the aly steerer is bonded to the actual forks and that it must be a weak point. This kind of thing's enough to make you stop riding and walk everywhere. :biggrin:
 
I would happily fit an all aluminium fork if somebody still made them - Scandium preferably.

I don't buy this comfort bollocks, having ridden all ally frames in the past and had no issues. Get the tyres and ergonomics right and one material is the same as another.
