Well it's official. I can wield a spanner with the rest of them! Well, if the truth be told I had to get my husband to help. Well, actually, I held the bike and greased the new pedals while he fitted them with the new spanner I bought.
See, I knew how to do it, and what I needed to do it, I just didn't possess the physical strength to do it!

I was guided to an article online (thanks to whoever posted that link for me) which told me how and with pictures..I like pictures, I have been informed I am a visual learner so pictures are always good in my book!
The new pedals are on. I doubt they will make me go any faster but they feel better than the stock plastic ones, and as I am a bigger gal, that can only be a good thing when I'm standing on them, defying gravity!

I think a bike stand is a must.

.....Apparently white lithium grease can dry out ........

I use vaseline, and have never had any trouble with it drying out.

do you use vaseline for main bearings? hub bearings, headset etc
Cheers Ed
No. I would in an emergency, but then clean it out and use the proper stuff as soon as I could. I don't suppose it would do any harm to use it in the headset, where there is no chance of it heating up with friction, but it would be entirely wrong to rely on it in the main wheel bearings (other than in an emergency, as I said). But for preventing threads corroding, as in the case of the pedals, it does a fine job. Vaseline is an under-rated product, and has the huge advantage of being universally available.

I was going to say that....... Of course, REAL overlanders have diesels, and thus aren't worried about engine electrics, but sometimes they are accompanied by Landrovers, and then you need every trick in the book. From my 6 month trans-Africa drive in 1994/95.
