Soreen cutting

Following on from the With what do you carve? thread, what do you use to slice Soreen Malt loaf with?

Using a small sharp knife squashes the loaf and the knife sticks in the cut.

I'm tempted to just munch it from the packet like a giant Mars bar.

That's what I do. I don't buy butter or spreads, so I don't need to bother cutting it.

too much kerf and there will be a HAZ. decent bread knife will work.

How about one of those knives with gaps in the blade, you're supposed to used for Brie and the like?

Or just choose a better cake. I mean, it's alright, but I've never got a knife stuck in a chocolate sponge....

I tend to try and squash the loaf to save pocket space on a long ride/sportive.

I've cut Soreen Malt Loaf with a 50,000psi water jet the thickness of a human hair ....

It has to be quite firm and you need a sharp bread knife. There's an even squidgier banana loaf that Soreen do, but that's so nice that you don't need to cut it up as it gets eaten all in one go!

(BTW, Soreen is on offer at the co-op at the moment at .50p a go!)

I've just had an idea ... Assuming that you will be spreading some butter or marge on once you have cut the malt loaf, why not lube the knife blade with butter or marge before you start cutting? I reckon it would work.

I feel like going out and buying some to put it to the test!
