What's he singing about in this one? Is he off to war?

No. Crying is not always about such obviously trite paralells.

Crying is a nut tasting ballet dancer, dancing on a melting lake.

She does her best, yet.. yet we still cry. boo hoo

I don't really cry at tunes, but if I want to get a load of emotion out I sit and play the second movement of Ravel's piano concerton in G and have a good cry when i'm playing it. Most of the time I don't get to the end haha.

The folk singer Roy Bailey caught me out at a folk festival the other week with a particularly moving rendition of the protest song 'Oh Palestine'. Because I know people at the sharp end there risking their lives day in day out, that set me off...

Most songs dealing with loss will have me reaching for the Kleenex.
The show must go on, by Queen - the last few lines, particularly the high notes of "I'll face it with a grin, I'm never giving in, on with the show!" sung by a bloke who knows he's dying...
'Wake me up when September ends' by Green Day, and The Verves 'The Drugs Don't Work' both have a terrible personal resonance for me.
