I don't know if any of you have experienced this or know how to fix this issue. I have Focus Cayo 2008 Ultegra, whenever I press the shifter's hood it goes faster although the brake pads aren't touching the rims. I can't make this out, this is very noticeable when going down hill as if the brakes are being applied ever so slightly as soon as I squeeze the hood I go a bit faster I can't see any of the pads touching the rims as I have a 5mm gap between the rim and the pads. I have also checked the wheels, they are true. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Many Thanks,

Turbo on/off switch deviously hidden by Sh*mano?

Or ask someone to squeeze the hood while you keep a close eye on the corresponding cables/housings/mech/brake?

Could be that the shifter is slightly loose and therefore pulling on the cable ever so slightly when you are riding, causing some brake rub. When you press on the hood your are easing the tension on the cable, freeing up the brake. I had this problem - though it was affecting the gear change more. The solution was to unwrap the bar tape, check that the outer cable is fully home and the shifter is firmly fixed, re-wrap and adjust the brake.

Thank you for your replies, this is a very odd problem. It does work just like a Turbo Boost. I don't have a Computer but it is very noticeable increase in speed. I have checked the pads and there is 5mm gaps front and rear. Is there a possibility that when I pull the shifters it changes the angle of the Fork? Will this cause the bike to slow down?
Im scrathing my head on this one I can't even see any play in the Headset.

Perception issue. Can't possibly increase speed if the brakes aren't rubbing.
Could be Perception, but I also asked one of my collegues, who did not beleived me, to ride my bike down hill he too was scratching his head. I'll have a look at the Headset and re-adjust and see what happens.

Disconnect the brake - or loosen the release lever - and ride (take care obviously). It's the only way to eliminate brake rub absolutely as the cause.

Personally, it sounds to me like perception. Perhaps in pressing the hood you're also leaning forward slightly and changing your weighting on the bike. Dunno.

This is a possible explanation, I can feel a different vibration coming through the Handlebar as I squeezed the Hood, shame I've lost my Computer. I'll just mark the shifters Twin Turbo on the right, Supercharger on the left. Is there a possibility that other Cyclists have this issue but haven't discovered yet?

I definately need a pair of those hoods ^_^
To the highest bidder see Ebay seller Snakeoil Merchant.

I haveinstalled my Mavic Aksium wheels last night re-adjusted the rear mech and found my Computer I'll see if this is a real issue or just in my mind.
