Some nasty problems with a new bike

Hey guys,

After a week with my new bike I decided to take it to a bike shop to have a mechanic adjust the damn front derailleur as it was giving me headaches.
What I thought was that because the bike is new, it just needed some adjustments here and there. But the mechanic found that the chain and front derailleur wasn;t the problem.
1) The axle was too short
2) One of the legs of the big chainring was slightly bent

This causes the chain (when on the smaller chainring) to rub against the big chainring only in that spot where the leg is bent.

I wrote an email to wiggle customer services and still waiting for a reply.
In your experience, do I have a chance of having this resolved?
Don't get me wrong, I love the bike and I dont want to return it. I was just hoping they would send a new axle and chainset.
I dont know how things are done here so is this just wishful thinking or can this go through?

I would suggest you reserve the right to return the bike at the seller's expense which is yours within 7 working days for mail order in this circumstance.

Regarding the bent chainset presumably it has been bashed.

Regarding the axle being too short, I presume it is with respect to chainline incompatibility with the front derailleur. If you provide the chainline measurement and make and model of the front mech someone here can probably give you a second opinion, if that is what you want. But given the chainset is bent it (and perhaps the bottom bracket) will probably have to be replaced in any case.

Thanks guys,
They arranged to send me a new box ( as i had to get rid of the first one, took up half the space in my apartment) to pack the bike and have it delivered to their workshop.
After they have a look at it they'll see whats to be done next.
Guess it's back to the bus for a week or so

You are right about that one, they seemed to be apologetic about everything. They even sent another box for the bike to be dispatched free of charge, as I had to throw the old one.
It arrived the next day and it will be shipped to them a day after that so all good so far.

2 weeks and 10 emails later my bike is back home again.

"They ran through the bike set up again and swapped parts to check what the problems were and where they seemed to stem from. The final conclusion was that the chainset was in fact fine, no faults there but there was an issue with the spacing of the chainrings. Missing from the chainset were the correct chainring spacers which should have been present to ensure correct running of the bike."

The customer service was very good through all of this. Only issue was with the courier, he missed the pick up twice but nothing else.
Also the shifters feel different now, i get the occasional chain slip when going up steep hills and have to downshift 2-3 times to get it in order again.

Overall im very pleased to be out riding again, just waiting for my lights now.

Cheers guys!

Well they're shimano 2300. Lots of opinions on how often they need to be adjusted. In the end I guess, you get what you pay for?
Also, If I say anything they might tell me to send the bike back which I won't do. I need my daily fix of riding
