I'm in no real position to offer advice as a noob, merely sharing which shorts I bought in case it might be useful

I appreciate it. Also, need to find some solution to the cold back I'm getting where my t-shirt pulls up my back...hmmm maybe something underneath, not lycra as that's a gateway to an all in one suit!

Cycling baselayers (it's a posh name for vests....) tend to be tailored for that bendy over extra length.

That's good to know, thanks. Being a fat lad with wide hips, most of my t-shirts ride up my back showing the builder's view, so I'll probably need something like that.

Think Lidl have some base layers in at the minute - well they did in my local branch last week - nice and cheap to try
