Not a shocker of course, but I wonder if I need to replace them?

First off was the bit of plastic that went between the rear cassette and the spokes. This cracked during an off yesterday and was rubbing on the largest cog making a noise so I pulled it off.

Second was a cross shaped bit of plastic that covered the screw heads on the front gears where the pedal crank is. Again, snapped when I went off, so pulled it off (it was hanging loose)

Finally, the rear spoke reflector broke on one of the clips so I pulled it.

Leave me off? Replace them all? or one of them?

You only need that plastic plate on the rear wheel to stop badly-adjusted dérailleurs ploughing into your spokes. Don't worry about the plate. Do make sure that the dérailleur or the hanger hasn't been damaged in the off. It's possible that the dérailleur got forced towards the wheel and that's what broke it in the first place.

EDIT: The reflector is a matter of choice. If you feel a driver won't be able to see you, your wheel or your bike without a reflector then put something on them - I've got some of those 3M spoke reflectors that fit around the spokes. On the other hand, if you feel a driver won't be able to see you, your wheel or your bike, then I'm not sure what good reflectors will do.

No idea about the thingy protecting the screws - I haven't got anything like that on my (road) bikes.

Ta, I've spend the morning checking the bike over and making adjustments to the rear mech etc and it seems to be running better now that before. The plate got broken by a stick between the top of the cassette and it. No damaged to the cassette, hanger, derailleur or spokes as far as I can see.

Good riddance

Probably worth keeping an eye on the screw heads it was covering just to check they don't rust.

I'd leave it off. If you do a lot of riding in the dark, the 3M spoke reflector tube thingys are far more effective.

Typical tat intended to give the impression of added value (more is better): at best it is worthless, at worst it will interfere with the proper operation of your machine.
