The tyres are 28mm, any wider would be very doubtful.

It's the original 100mm stem in the photos. Everything has been returned to the original spec. I had an 80mm stem on when I last rode it. However, as we discussed above, in my opinion, it is quite a long top tube (555 mm) for a medium but I was ok with it at 5' 8" before I started shrinking with age
You're more than welcome to come and give it a try, I think I have an 80mm stem we can fit for a test ride. Just send me a PM and we'll arrange something but it seems a very long way to travel if it doesn't work out.
