I'm not doubting you Globalti, but equally, I cannot understand how uneven cable ends might make for a soft feel at the brake lever. Are you able to explain please?
As Afnug writes above, cable outers need to be squared off at the ends or the bundle of unequal strands of steel reinforcement will allow compression when you pull the lever.
All inner brake cables are good quality and pre-stretched. The tension needed to stretch them is far far beyond what the human hand can achieve and certainly way beyond what's needed to lock up the wheel. Inner cables don't stretch but outer cables do compress and settle, which has the same effect.
