I have just bought a two pair pack of Endura Baa Baa merino wool socks from my LBS, and can highly recommend them for comfort and fit. Not a great deal of padding, but surprisingly warm in the cold and very good at wicking away sweat when it gets sticky.

Thanks guys, some good suggestions there.

Hopefully cold feet won't be a problem soon and you'll be glad of those vents ^_^

I'll recommend the Aldi ones - use them every day on commute.

Road bikes/weekend, it's any reasonable cycling sock - Decathlon do a good range, or the Aldi ones.

Winter it's overshoes as well to keep warm.

Vented shoes are the key though, especially as the weather warms up. Trainers can make your feet get very smelly - I've never had that problem with cycling shoes - they 'should' keep your feet well vented.
