Socks

Now don't get me wrong here. I'm no pro so I don't want the latest carbon nano-filament technology at £300 a pop!

But having learned the benefit of padded shorts and a proper jersey to wick away sweat I was wondering what you guys recommend in the sock department both to keep my feet cool and sweat-free and to give a little padding inside my newly acquired cycling shoes (Shimano MT33L).

It might seem counter-intuitive but I discovered in my cricket-playing days that 2 pairs of reasonably thick socks were better at keeping my feet comfortable on really hot days. The outer pair helps wick the moisture away so your feet swell less.

I just wear ASDA trainer socks. Thin, comfy and do keep your feel reasonably well regulated temperature wise and they don't get too sweaty.

Unfortunately I'd never get 2 pairs of socks under my cycling shoes. With hind-sight I'd have taken that into account when I bought my shoes!

So something thin would be better until I can justify buying more shoes

I find my black ones more comfortable than the white ones - bizarre, possibly different year models (if that is possible with socks)! 3 pairs for under a tenner

3-pairs of more-mile socks for a tenner.
Lots a colour choice and great wicking
Also look/feel good in trainers.

For the winter I have some thermal sealskinz socks. It took me a while to work out it was actually warmer without any liner socks underneath, also it made my shoes a little tight with two pairs.

I also tape up the vents in my shoes to stop the flow of cold air.

For mid conditions I have some trainer socks and some thinner sealskinz trainer socks.

When it's warm, if it will ever be warm again, I will just be sporting trainer socks, no tape. That out to keep my feet nice and cool.

Seal skinz for me too. On a chilly day the waterproof membrane is a really effective windstopper.
