"I'd like my wedding dress to have a train, please."
I bought Arch and NT coffee and cake when they called in at Hebden Bridge yesterday and they were showing me the rings.
NT is a 'maker of things' and the rings were one of his projects. He machined them out of stainless steel and cut grooves round the outside which were filled with contrasting braze (?) and then remachined. I thought it was a brilliant thing to do. It has the advantage that if one of the rings ever gets lost, he can simply make a replacement!
Here are our engagement rings:

Mine is the one made of Yew, and brass screws. I made NT's of inner strands of alarm cable, and 'gold' wire from round a wine bottle. We've had trouble keeping his together, and he doesn't generally wear a ring anyway, due to working with his hands a lot, but all that matters is that he has it. As he said, anyone can spend money on a thing and then lose it, but if our rings are lost or break, we can fix them, just as we fix anything that goes wrong in life.
For wedding rings, we're hoping to source a pair of titanium jubilee clips.
