When was that, then?

I thought 2 star was cheaper than 4 star but it was along time ago and my then Commer van ran on 2 star in the early 1960's. I imagine I would have gone for the cheapest at that time.

I always thought that 2 star was the lowest octane grade, working up to 5 star?

It was but as 4 star was more popular it was cheaper, supply & demand I presume

If something is more popular the price goes up.
