I came to a conclusion last year , that if i were to have any quality of life in my later years, i need to do something about it now.
Yup im definatley a MAMIL, i cannot ride a motorcycle due to health reasons, cycling provides the fun i crave and the beneficial health improvement needed.
and yes i wear lycra, mainly for comfort purposes.
also cycling is addictive, the bikes are sexy and hill climbs are challenging but provide a sense of achievement.
I found that article last night whilst surfing the internet and showed Mr Summerdays (owner of a new shiny bike this week and right age) - and asked him where his new credit card was
Not a big fan of being considered a "type". We are all individuals after all. This type of thing tends to stereotype people too much. I'm in the right-age bracket and I wear lycra, but I don't have a top of the range carbon bike, I don't have a 36 inch waist and I sure as sh*t do not spend £1000 per year on cycling gear and equipment.
I read the article the other day and smiled to myself. As a newcomer (although I wouldn't say I was middle aged just yet - 38) I felt I was the type of person it was talking about.
For me, I've always been an armchair fan of the sport and finally made the transition to taking part. Whether it's a coincidence that countless other appear to be hitting the road nowadays or I was unknowingly part of a higher movement of conciousness I don't know . What I do know is I love it and wish I hadn't left it so long!!
Tell you something else..... I wanna do the Ventoux too now!!
I read the article and was quite pleased to have joined a species. I was out on my Sunday ride and stopped at a biker cafe in Rye. There was a bit of banter going on and I told them I was now a MAMIL, they loved it.
