Well thats I then we are MAMIL's (middle aged men in lycra) well some of us anyway.

Well at least the trend seems to be gathering pace, cant believe how many people are out and about on bikes nowadays and long may it continue!

Ah well I suppose its time for this mamil to don the lycra and head for the road

it's always the fashion to mock everything in this country  says a lot of our society

it would have been just as easy to write "middle age men are now taking the healthy option and keeping fit by cycling. also the most environmentally friendly option instead of cars and motor bikes" etc. but then that wouldn't make such a good headline.

midlife crisis ??? never heard such bollocks

"the emphasis on the ISH is growing towards MAMWAAL, but never any kind of MIL" -
on no other forum except this, could that statement make any kind of sense

I emailed the story to my Mrs at work, she found it highly amusing

Well, it is blatantly true that there are more of us "older" guys out on the roads these days. I for one know that I look ridiculous in my lycra, but hey, I don't give two hoots!

I can only speak for myself though when I say that my prime motivation was the get fitter by commuting to work, I don't think that qualifies as a midlife crisis, I've had plenty others to go by so recognise the signs !

I take the point about our media culture, it is indeed very true that we always look to ridicule anything in this country rather than see the positives. Getting fitter, living a healthier lifstyle, whilst being greener and more friendly to our dying planet for some people would be seen as a good thing.

That said, I take the article tongue in cheek as I hope it was meant to be.

I'm 52, been cycling for over 30 years and love it so i won't be stopping and I don't care what anybody says. Anything that make cycling more comfortable is welcome and if that means lyca then that's what I'll wear. People who don't like middleaged men cycling have got a problem. I probably don't like half the things they do like sitting on their arses and watching crap tv. Their has to be an "ism" for us cyclicts to claim for people who don't like cyclists, like "cyclism"
