The thing about David Millar was that, although he doped, when he was caught he admitted it, instead of claiming dodgy meat/cough mixture whatever, and served his time.
He IS banned from the Olympics I understand.
When he was interviewed after getting the bronze in the road race he said (again) he was sorry, and that he was grateful to be allowed to compete in the circumstances, and thanked the Scottish team for supporting him.

Chapeau, I say.
:bravo:

(Wasn't it User76 who was extremely annoyed in the Road World Championships thread about people posting results without Spoiler in the title? Revenge? or what??)

THis does not bother me personally, but it will others on this forum. I think you should have amended the headline to include some comment on the thread being a SPOILER.

Isn't it interesting though, he wasn't so keen on working with the authorities while he was doping was he?
[/quote]

Course not. No, it's not at all interesting, it is just what you would expect.

Turned over a new leaf and all that...

I missed the rant, was it a good one?

Doesn't it depend on how big you think the Commonwealth games are in terms of major events?

Sorry for the waffle coming up but my original thinking was the Commonwealth Games weren't such a big event compared to the other road races he is allowed to compete in but have changed my mind.

The CG don't get the best athletes/riders in the world because so many are excluded by the virtue of where they are born but I've come to think that the Games are important because of the young athletes and the ability for them to compete against some of the best athletes in the world in their disciplines. Is this lessened by racing against someone who has been banned or enhanced by racing against someone who is a relatively big name in their sport?

I don't follow racing all that closely but are lifetime bans handed out in cycling?

There is also the factor of the accused coming quietly with the cops and pleading guilty in court. In law, individuals who accept their guilt and show appropriate remorse are normally given lesser sentences than those that resist arrest and plead not-guilty throughout the trial.

I have no particular problem with Millar, the same as I have no problem with anyone who admits what they did, shows remorse and actively works to change the culture of cycling afterwards. It's smirking twerps like Ricco who make no effort to even care who annoy me... and of course those who continue to lie about their activities even when found out.

He did the crime, he did the time.

As far as I am concerned he has nothing to prove to anyone on here or any other forum only his peers can judge him as an equal.

Well done David Millar classy ride and showing bags of form at the end of the season.

If he did the crime and served his time why can't he race in the Olympics?

Personally, I'm firmly in the zero tollerance group on sports cheats.

It's pretty difficult explaining to your children why any sports star who takes performance enhancing drugs is allowed to represent their country ever again.
