On the news today Natasha Kaplinsky said she had eight inches last night which was making it difficult this morning.

She may be in for the same again tonight.

Did she? Or did you badly remember an old internet joke?

Well, it wasn't too bad in the end. I did get it a little bit sideways on the road into our Rochdale depot, but I must admit to flooring the throttle just to see if it would powerslide, and it did. Otherwise, the roads weren't too bad.

Some more pics
The lights in the 2nd & 3rd pic are from the Gritter truck going up the road and doing a couple of circuits of the roundabout

Fair amount of snow there.

How do you take photo's like that where the lights of vechiles leave trails ?
I have a Nikon D50 and really need to learn all about it.

Looks like we might see the sun here today - maybe I shouldn't have bothered spending 15 minutes clearing 6 inches of snow off the car for when we have to go shopping later on!

Hope it melts the ice in the side roads. A neighbour slid across into the kerb yesterday coming out of their drive and damaged the steering on their car.

Boooo. It's all melted here. How boring!

Tdr1nka, I love that last pic of Miss Tdr1nka!

I guess the 'chaos' gets worse everytime because people are getting more dependent on cars - living further from work etc... Anything less than a couple of miles and a couple of feet depth and you should be able to walk in, suitably clothed, albeit taking longer than if it was clear...

Funny, the news has all been doom and gloom, even saying the economy has lost a billion etc. But all the pictures seem to be of loads of people out in the snow, having fun in a community style you rarely see! (I especially liked the guy sledging on an airbed, that looked real fun, and the bus drivers having a snowball fight)

It's lovely here. There's still two or three inches of snow on the ground, but the sun's out and it's the most glorious morning. I got home from my night shift intending to just fall into bed, but I found myself back out of the door with my camera and a bag of lenses in pretty short order. I'll post some pics later on (if they're any good).:B)

60cm = 2 feet.. you have two feet of snow in Guildford?

60cm was what they measured at the university (hence being shut). At my house it was less, maybe 40cm. It was approaching my knees when I went out first thing yesterday. Seems to be melting/compacting now.

Anyone see the 10 o'clock news last night, the Westminster reporter was reporting from opposite the commons (on something else, not the weather) and in the background was a perfect, storybook snowman - big ball for base, smaller one for chest, smaller still for head, top hat, sticks for arms, stones for buttons etc. I was laughing so much, I can't remember the story!

I walked in this morning, for about a mile and half across fields with a foot of snow in them. Very nice.

Unfortunately my 2 year old and 11 month old's nursery is a mile and a half in the opposite direction, so I couldn't carry them in. And the road there would be extremely dangerous (several 15% sections, now covered in snow and ice)- if we could even get the car out of the drive.

So even though my wife and I could both walk to work, my wife is having to stay at home. Likewise all the schools around here are closed so if the kids were of school age it would be the same problem.
