being old and not quite up to speed on techy things - could someone tell me if there is a app or something to go on a smart phone that would allow you to track where you are on a laptop ? i am guessing that it would be a sign up thing as computers have got to talk to each other - or am i living in my own little dream world as many people have told me

Depends largely on whether you want the person with the phone to know the phone is being tracked.

Yes - use an app like Glympse

No - if you pay the bill you might be able to pay a little extra to switch on tracking.

If you have an iPhone you can use the Find iPhone app which will locate the whereabouts of where you/phone is.

It comes free with Windows Phone - you can track, erase or kill the phone from the comfort of your own home

There's a number of android apps that do this sort of thing, with a variety of different goals - either locating your phone, tracking your family, friends, etc. Glympse (mentioned above) is the one I've read of most on cycling forums. I've no experience of any though.

The "Find my phone" works with all Apple devices and you can find IPads, IPhone, Macbooks and I Phone Touch, basically anything that is connected to a WiFi or internet Source.

There are also many apps for tracking people / phones.

My wife and I work in the NHS so late finishes are a daily occurrence. We simply check where the other one is when we leave and the one closest to home does the shopping!

Alternatively as we both hit Fareham, we can meet up for supper if we both finish really late, so it works well for both of us.

Android has Life 360 and Apple has Find my Friends

I use both as I have a Galaxy Dual Sim and an Iphone, but Life 360 can work on both.
I am not entirely comfortable with the promotion of Life 360 with some of the scare tactics, but it has more features than the Apple app, including a "Panic" option which will text / email / ring allocated Family members

From a Privacy point of view all the systems require consent. You have to request access and this needs o be accepted before the person is added to the app

Does anyone know what sort of data usage there is (for those of us on payg deals) on these auto-tracking apps. I'm guessing it's sod all.... though 'sod all' could add up on longer rides.
