Sorry if this has been done to death but - winter draws on

The Smart rear light gets good write ups and good mentions on here. 1 specific question - does it include a fitting that will attach to the standard light plate at the back of a rack? e.g. cateye sell a fitting for the rack so their lights can clip in as normal. I would rather not have my light seat post or seat stay mounted.

I can't find a (fairly)LBS with that light in stock.

John, they come with a 'normal' seat post clamp but you can get a rack plate bracket - you need to google 'cos I can't remember where I got mine, sorry.

The new ones oval shape aren't as good as the old 'long' shaped ones. The cip on the light isn't as secure. They jump out of the clip on the back of my rack pack. The old one didn't but I'd given it to my son and replace it with a new one before I found out.

One of these, however not in stock at the moment

Bike + have them, in stock as far as I can tell without actually ordering one.

If you don't have a rack plate or want to fit a 2nd, you can fit the light holder half of a seat post mount to a J82s, which will go on most racks somewhere suitable.

I think I've got a rack bracket for one of those (just the clamp bit, it certainly looks like it's for a Smart light).

Looks like you're all sorted now, but you can have it if you want it.

buggered my second one tonight, just like the first one it ejected itself when the bike hit a sharp bump, I think the retaining clip wears over time, and once again I found the batteries and the back plate but the front lens side vanished, think I've had enough of that design

I'll let you know what the Blackburn Mars 4.0 is like once it arrives - it's finally been dispatched..... 1w rear, and if the bracket is like the Mars 3.0 then it's good.... slightly flexy (in the vertical plane) so the light is 'shock absorbed' but held secure, and they have a lifetime guarantee !

I only lost my Mars 3.0 once, and that was my own stupid fault (didn't click it in properly). My Smart 1/2W (RIP) has been a champ, and I'd still be using it now had it not been spread across the road when I was knocked off most recently. (The clip and bracket survived, but the bit with the light and batteries in was violently separated from it. Had my uniross hybrios in too :/ )

I'd be very interested in your opinion of the Mars 4.0, fossy - pop a review up if you get chance to.

I love my Smarts, everyone that has overtaken me from work comments on how bright they are.
I have one clipped to my carradice barley saddle bag and the other clipped to the end of the rack and cable tied down to stop it jumping off.

I have one on my fixed commuter, Wadey (The Missus) has one on hers and we have one on the Tandem.

Basically....OUTSTANDING!!!

I really like my Smart lights. Yes, they let in water, but they fail in a safe manner (light stays on). I've got three, use them on all my bikes (in conjunction with a Dinotte on the commuter). They are also bright enough to use when time-trialling in daylight.

Not perfect, but for the price I think they work very well, their cheapness is a bonus in that I can always have a spare on me during the winter (not so with the Dinotte), plus- if I did manage to lose or break one I know I could get another for £15 (they can be bought for less than a tenner now I think). If I broke my Dinotte I'd be pissed off.
