Hello all,

For the last few weeks I've been waking up to find a slug in my kitchen every couple of days or so, which is bad enough.
But this morning, as the little un was getting his breakfast cereal out, he said "how did a slug get in the cupboard?" And sure enough, there was a big fat slug in there. xx(

Help! Any one know how to get the slugs to move out without also killing the dog? I have no idea where they're coming from.

We once had this problem in our old house. A pest control friend told us to look for potential access points e.g. Under doors etc. A line of salt along your threshold will sort this.
It turned out they were getting into our house via the washing machine drain pipe. Once we made this inaccessible (old tights and duct tape) problem solved.
Of course, if you encourage hedgehogs into your garden, they'll keep them in check.
Hope this helps.

They don't like salt so perhaps mix up some very salty water with some washing up liquid and wipe (or spray) the whole inside of the cupboard with it and leave it to dry so it leaves a layer of salt.

I am guessing they like damp conditions so is any wet getting in? My house is old and has solid walls and with all the rain we had earlier this year we have damp in the walls that we have never had before.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

+1 for what nappadang says. Slugs dont like salt. It burns them and dries them out

We had one coming in to our kitchen. One night I spotted one squeezing in between the door frame and the flooring. I lifted the floor covering and pushed slug pellets into the gap. They disappeared between the floorboards. After pushing the floor covering back we've not seen any since.

I have managed to minimise our slug ingress by sealing round the electrical cables. They can squeeze through surprisingly tiny holes. And they love cat food.

I think they may be getting in through a gap between the floor and doorframe near the dogs water bowl. I'll try putting a line of salt down.
